Minutes:

Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Bindloss, Cumbers, Douglas, Glancy, Higgins, Pritchett and Wood.

Members to declare any interest as appropriate in respect of items to be considered at this meeting.

Minutes:

An other registrable interest in respect of County Councillors Orson and Posnett, was noted as being on record for any matters which related to the Leicestershire County Council.

MAYOR'S ANNOUNCEMENTS

Minutes:

The Mayor thanked all Members who attended the reading of the proclamation on Sunday 11 September. He stated that the event was well attended and a fitting tribute to the accession of King Charles III.

 

The Mayor asked all present to join him and observe a two-minute silence to reflect on the lifetime of service which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II devoted to the United Kingdom, the realms and territories and to the Commonwealth.

 

All present then stood and observed the silence.

MOTION

Address to His Majesty, King Charles III

 

That the Mayor, on behalf of the Members and Officers at Melton Borough Council, expresses our deep sadness and grief at the death of Her Majesty The Queen and convey our sincere condolences to His Majesty The King and members of the Royal Family.

 

That Melton Borough Council recognises the strong and steadfast presence Her Majesty has provided for over 70 years and acknowledges with gratitude Her incredible dedication to this country and the commonwealth, as well as her enduring legacy of selfless public service.

 

That the Members and Officers of the Council congratulate His Majesty King Charles III on his accession to the throne and wish Him a long and happy reign.

Address to His Majesty, King Charles III

The following motion was proposed by Councillor Orson and seconded by Councillor Graham.

 

‘That the Mayor, on behalf of the Members and Officers at Melton Borough Council, expresses our deep sadness and grief at the death of Her Majesty The Queen and convey our sincere condolences to His Majesty The King and members of the Royal Family.

Members of the Council paid tribute to Her Majesty, The Queen and recognised her long service to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. They recounted their memories of The Queen and retold times they had met The Queen and the new King. Members also expressed congratulations to King Charles III on his accession to the throne.

 

RESOLVED

RECOGNISED the service The Queen had given to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, CONGRATULATED King Charles III on his accession to the throne and REQUESTED that the Mayor expressed their sincere condolences to His Majesty on the death of The Queen.

COUNCILLOR MELANIE MILLER

It was observed that Council had met for the first time since the death of Councillor Melanie Miller, nee Steadman. After paying tribute Councillor Miller and expressing deep sadness at the loss of a friend and colleague, the Mayor requested that Members joined him in observing a minute silence.

 

All present then stood and observed the silence.
